Softball?!?

i wanna join my high school softball team but ive never played before.

sooo i have kno clue about the game. (norr baseball)

im 15yrs old sooo please tips . all the girls have played before soo i just need to kno how to play and all the other stuff about it.|||this will be a challenge for you...most girls in high school that play have played since they were young...they have all probably played together on other summer leauge teams...you have a lot of catching up to do...perhaps you could join a summer team that way you can get a feel for the game then tryout next year once you know what to expect...talk to the girls on the team and even the coach he or she can advise you on what to do....I played high school softball and most of the girls i played with I had played with my entire life...it will be tough there is no doubt about that....go to an indoor battting cage see if you can hit the ball the average high school pitcher throws probably in the mid to upper 50s...which is fast for softball it equates to a 80-90mph baseball pitch...see if you are any good...get someone to play catch with you see if you can throw the ball accurately. The problem with starting at 15 is you haven't learned the basics such as how to hold a bat, throw and ball, slide, bunt, etc. you need to work, work, work if you want to make your high school team!|||softball is so much fun

if you have no idea what to do ask some girls who have played before. all you really have to know is how to catch and bat. be careful while catching the ball. if you catch it right in the palm of your hand, it will hurt. be sure to stretch too. hope that helps!!|||okay. well you'll probably be expected to throw short and long distance. so practice everyday EXCEPT the one before tryouts. make sure to ice your throwing arm's shoulder, elbow and wrist everyday after you practice. you'll be expected to run sprints. and possibly slide (try to get someone who already plays to teach you). try going to the batting cages a few times. try to work on fielding grounders and work on situational plays [such as "turning two"]. you can learn about these by looking online.

as for equipment:

you'll definitely need a glove. try to get your dad to break it in for you or see if you can get a used one so it doesnt hurt your hand. expect blisters from the batting cages and from your glove if it is new. but dont worry if you see one forming us neosporine and a bandaid everyday and it'll go away.

you'll need batting gloves [i recommend the jennie finch ones which are $30].

if you plan on staying with softball you could purchase a bat.

your team will probably have helmets that you can use.

you may also want to get a bat bag as well as a mouth guard to where while you are in the field.[most teams require mouth guards]

you'll also definitely need cleats.

^^^^^ thats a previous answer i wrote down. that pretty much reguards your equipment and conditioning. but make sure that you practice you swings everyday. go to the batting cages as often as you can.

good luck =]

you can email me if you have more questions.|||I agree with girly27, most the girls (at least on my team) have been playing since they've were around 4 or 5. High school softball is really competitive. Most the players on our team play on a summer league together or are personally trained. The speeds are probably a little too fast for someone who has never played. Our pitcher pitches almost 70 MPH, and almost no one can hit against her. She's beast. Lol... A good way to learn the rules are reading them on wikipedia. I was just reading it and it explains pretty well. If you have questions, you can ask me.
