What are some ways to practice for softball by yourself?

I need help on ways to practice for softball by myself. I can't always have somebody come over to throw to me so I need some ways other than throwing the ball in the air and catching to help me get ready for softball.|||I use a softer softball or a squishy one (even a tennis ball can work) and throw it against a wall with a marked off spot. Try to hit the spot each time to improve your accuracy. I try to throw quickly and hard so that it improves my reaction time. So after you throw to the wall and it bounces back you have to field it quickly and throw again. If you want to practice fielding different types of balls throw it at different spots on the wall. Toss it under hand to work on catching line drives and pop ups (note you may also have to move a little closer to the wall too), and throw to work on grounders.

If you want to practice batting, toss some balls up to yourself to hit. If you don't have access to the outdoors or it is too cold, you can use an old broken broom handle that's about your bat size in length and toss some ping pong balls up to yourself to hit. If you can hit those line drives every time you'll become much better at hitting.|||1. Try throwing against a wall with even a tennis ball.

2. Get it pitch back from Dick's Sporting Good or a sporting good store. You throw the ball into it and it sling shots the ball back to you.

3. Get a tennis racket, and hit tennis balls into the air, and focus on it and getting it into your Mit.

4. Roll a ball of any kind about 5 feet in front of you. Run, scoop it up, and throw to a target for accuracy.

hope this helps!|||go to ***** sporrting goods or a sporting goods store and they should have a net that u are able to throw at and the ball will come right back to you so u can catch it.

its great for pitching, warming up, or just playing by urself! =D

What skills do you need to play softball?

I've never played softball since middle school. I think I can bat pretty good but you know that was in middle school when we had throw underhand. What skills do you need to play softball?|||same you need to play baseball|||They still pitch underhanded in Softball.

Hand eye coordination is the primary skill required. If you were a pretty good hitter in middle school, you probably will catch on to hitting very fast.

Can you catch a fly ball, field a ground ball and/or throw a ball at least 60 feet.

Most of us have the necessary skills to play softball, especially slow pitch softball. Running is a good skill to have, you do not need blazing speed.

The rules may have changed somewhat since middle school but you can pick them up quickly.

Basic skills, hit, run, throw and throw. If you are considering joining a Co-Ed League or a Woman's League, you should go for it. Most players in C0-ED are average type of players and are there to have some fun and get some exercise. Go and have some fun.

You will do fine.|||Speed and Agility are very important. You need to be able to move quick and react to the ball. You will need good eye-hand coordination too. You can't hit and catch without it. If you are looking for good Softball drills and skills check out the link below. It is a great resource that will help you improve on all of your softball skills.|||You need speed, agility and endurance. Also you need to have proper mechanics when throwing or hitting. There is also proper footwork you need to know while fielding. You need to know proper baserunning as well.|||alot of practice would be a simple anwser

but to be more specific: running outfield/ infeld work, batting. catching, throwing, sliding, the calls

and you dont have to know how to pitch unless you plan to pitch|||Speed, agility, fielding, base running, sliding, hitting, bunting, pitching/catching (if a pitcher or catcher)

foot work|||Softball is always underhand no matter what level. Hand eye coordination and speed will get you a long way.|||Hand eye coordination and a knowledge of the game

What are some great tips for my softball skills?

I am in grade 11 and I play softball. I am not too great. I am an outfielder and a decent batter. But I have not a clue about all the terms or what to do in a play. I don't want to waste the coaches time by asking because every one else is pretty skilled. Please give me all there is to know about playing softball.|||i play softball too... i find it very useful to look at where the runners are... for example i play third so theres a runner on first if its hit hard to me i want to try to get that runner at 2nd base and turn a double play... but if the ball isnt hit so hard you would want to get the play at first... softball is a complex thinking game you can make it simple if you have in mind what your going to do with the before it gets hit to you... if you have free time just think about some situations and answer them yourself... and as far as asking your coach for help... feel free to ask him/her coaches love when their players are informed it shows them that youre trying to improve your game and that you care|||Immerse yourself in studying the game! Try and find games on television and read books! You will still have to ask the coach questions, but that is what coaches are for. I coach and I love questions from the players! It tells me you care and are trying. You are not a bother!

What is the best softball fielders mask?

I am a softball pitcher and this year my coach is making all pitchers and third base to wear face masks. I used to have a Game Face mask, but I found it very uncomfortable. I need a mask that covers your entire face, is very lightweight, comfortable, you can talk with it on, and you can see through. Please provide a link.|||your coach is a wise person...listen to him...my daughter pitches and last year after getting a nice bruise in the chest and seeing a friend get smacked in the face, she insisted on a mask...good move on her part...she has always used the gameface pitchers mask and been ok with it...good luck

How to get travel softball team psyched before games?

Well, my 12u travel softball team is very talented and good. But sometimes my infield gets down on themselves and make errors (I'm a pitcher.) How can we get the team mad, excited and able to do our best while we're hitting?|||Don't piss them off, I think from personal expierce that it doesn't help anyone. Before the game just give them a pep talk on about how if they want to get anywhere in life that they need to give 120% on and off the field, then add something cheesy in there like so lets go beat the guys or something lol. Yeah but if you can get the mental game out of baseball/softball you can do anything. Just make sure your team knows this.|||Logan is right. Girls are fluffy and cute. You cannot yell at them or you will lose them into a sea of emotions and there play will suffer even more.

You have to let girls know that you still love them despite their mistakes and flaws and faults. You must stay positive, keep the fun in the game and smile a lot. A lot of "That's okay Honey, here we go now!!" or "Nice try, Sweetie, NICE TRY!!" is on order here.

Psyched up only works for Middle Linebackers, I'm afraid. Wrong gender. Wrong sport.

How Do The College Softball Players Keep From Getting Helmet Hair?

I Play competitive fast pitch softball and when i take of my batters helmet my hair is all over the place, but when you watch the college girls there hair is nice and not all-over-the-place-ish.

How do they do it?|||They have special helmets and stuff and there is probably different material then the one you are using. What I recommend is using some sports hair spray and I thick, white headband. The kind that stretches. that way you can play in the field with it on too. Also it may be how you take your helmet off. They don't have the cages on them and they kind of pull it back instead of lifting it. Hope I helped!|||i found the best thing to do is..french braid your hair b4 the game and if you have layers, well even if you dont, it really helps to put some hairspray or jell in your hair to hold it in place..and also get a sport headband to hold your hair back.|||Sometimes they will do it really nicely before the game and then they put gell in it so it won't get as messed up|||Haha i know what you mean. I don't know how they do it i just redo my ponytail after i bat. Sorry

Do you have any softball coaching experiences you can share with me?

I'm in hs, and am planning to coach for my community service hours, and because I love softball and have played for 10 yrs. Advice?|||Rule #1 Make it fun for the kids. If it isn't fun, the kids will drop the game.

Demonstrate the drills and do them with the players. The players WILL be looking up to you, and your doing the drills with them will make a HUGE impact.

Invite questions about the game, and how the drills help a player. If you don't know the answer to a question, say so and don't be embarrassed about it.

Focus on teaching the aspects of the game that you do particularly well, and learning with the players the other parts of the game. This will improve their game and yours.

Relax and have fun. If you don't, they can't. See rule #1.|||I'm not a coach, but I played on a softball team, and here's what to keep in my mind:

If you're star/older players aren't being role models for the younger ones, you need to tell them. Also, if they are showing up to practice/games late, don't play them just because they are the best. You have to teach them a lesson, and bench them. Play the girl who isn't very good, but always shows up on time.

When a player keeps striking out, they hate it. They especially hate it when their coach doesn't even attempt to help. Players don't usually come to their coach, so you have to approach them. Try and analyze what they're doing, to try and help them.

Good luck!|||Sorry i don't have much advice just go out an do it . after 10 years you should know how to play the game so you should e good to go.|||practice the basics,base-running,infield drills,cut-offs,and maybe batting practice|||Just let this kids have fun. Being a softball player, you will be able to identify which kids fit in which position the best. Give everyone a chance to play and have fun yourself! If anyone gives you trouble, sit them down to teach discipline and such and that will earn the respect of your team.

How should a short softball player stand when batting?

What are some tips on how a short person playing fastpitch softball should stand when batting?|||Batting stance doesn't have to change with a player's height. If you see the different ages in softball the batting stance does not change whether you're on a 10U team or an a collegiate team.

Just make sure that you're comfortable with your batting stance because you don't want to be tense before swinging.

What are some good softball drills for a dedicated player?

I am 13 but I will try anything. Softball (fastpitch) means everything to me, and i want to be good at it. I am the coaches daughter and the best player in the league, but i want to get in better shape. What are some good drills to get stronger legs for catching, and some for stronger arms? Anything will help, or some links too! Thanks|||um first of all you sound a little brat people are not going to answer a question like that...what team do you play for if your so good you would play for a traveling team|||Make sure to increase you core and leg strength, Core workout as planks, stability ball exercises and free weight workouts like the russian twist will help alot. For the legs, exercises like split squats, regular squats, bulgarian squats and step ups will help. Make sure you have a planned and progressive program to follow.

What is the best softball glove for intense infield play?

I'm looking for a good softball glove where the lacing doesn't come undone. The last two I have had were an Easton and a Mizuno and both had to be re-laced.|||if you're looking for durability you should get a Rawlings, but Rawlings tend to run on the expensive side. On the other side another good glove would be a Wilson, they are durable, provide you with good performance, and are relatively cheap, probally $130-$200

Wilson provides you with the same feedback just less expensive|||rawlings makes the absolute best gloves, they are the most well made and will last you years. i myself use a rawlings glove in my baseball games

In softball is it illegal to have a baseball batting helmet?

I have a rawlings CFBH batting helmet, and I think it is a baseball helmet. Will the umpire check for a softball helmet?

does it HAVE to be a softball helmet.|||If it's NOCSAE certified, it should be fine.

I also checked the Rawlings site, and it doesn't appear to differentiate between baseball and softball helmets.|||it depends most girls softball leagues make u were the cage on the helmet. If u do need that go to a sporting goods store and buy one there cheap like 20$

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc鈥?/a>

like this! :)|||Any helmet can be used. It is for your protection. If the umpire says something, which he wont, tell him or her to........well, be nice.|||it doesnt really matter baseball vs softball but in most leagues, it needs a face guaard in the front!

What size slow-pitch softball bat is good for women?

I am entering a COED team into a softball league and I need to buy a couple bats for the women on the team. What length and weight should I be looking for?|||Quiet Angel is correct about the weight and length. Just remember to check to make sure the bats are slow pitch softball bats.|||I would say a 34 26 or 34 28

What are some of the best softball fielding drills?

I play softball for a college team and I'm a shortstop. I was wondering what good softball fielding drills I can use to improve upon my skills.|||Would you be doing this with someone or by yourself. First of all, good fundamentals are KEY. As a middle infielder myself, mostly 2nd base though, angles are the biggest things to work on as a shortstop. There are soo many missed plays because of a wrong angle, so...for starters, that is a great way to be a good shortstop. Basically what you'll do is start in your fielding position, pivot to either forehand or backhand and cross-over with your feet (whichever way you're going) at about a 45 degree angle from which you started. Also, just having a ton of ground balls hit to you really hard and the occasional soft one will help a lot. Working on footwork is huge too. Making sure you have quick feet is essential. Covering the bases (2nd and 3rd) in bunt situations, steal situations, and double play situations. Another thing is working on cutoffs from outfield. Find someone to throw you balls from each OF position Repetition will help you out the most. I would ask a coach how he/she wants you to cover the bags in certain situations and from there, go on your own and practice them by having bunts laid down or have the catcher throw down to each base.

To make a great shortstop, communication is the most important concept a shortstop should have.

I just finished my 4 years at a Div. I school so I've done many a drills.

Hope this kinda helps or gets things started for ya. email me with other questions if you need.

What are some fun activities for adults at a softball tournament?

I am running a coed softball tournament and I need help with ideas of fun things to do for the adults other than a homerun derby or bat races. Any suggestions?|||A 1-pitch game is always a good warmup. Actually I've played in entire 1 pitch tournaments before and had a blast.

You can do it a few different ways that I've seen. Opposing pitcher gets 1 pitch. A ball is a walk, everything else is either a hit or an out, including foul balls, which are strike three. You could also say you get one courtesy foul, that's up to you.

Or you could pitch to your own team and no walks are allowed, every pitch is strike 3 so you gotta make contact regardless of where the pitch is. The pitcher is on your team so he's not a fielder so if he/she touches a ball it's an automatic out.|||We drink at our games. Let's just say our first game is pretty good but our second is well...you can only imagine!

When does the softball season start in vancouver?

Im am going on exchange in canada in august this year. Can someone please tell me when the softball season starts and finish's in vancouver. Thankyou|||February-June

What type of training will get me in shape for hish school softball?

I recently made a traveling softball team. In addition I am also planning to try out for my high school's softball team. I attended a meeting yesterday where I found out that there are mandatory after-school weight trainings twice a week. The coach (who is also a football coach) stated that he was too easy last year (our team lost in the final game to get to states) and this year he, if we make the team, we will be pushed to our breaking point. This is the kind of coach that I find is better for me.

What are things that I can do, in addition to travel practice and weight practices?? I would like specific exercises.

***What can I do to strengthen muscles?

***What kind of diet should I be on. (Not to lose weight but to stay healthy and have energy)

***What are some tips for nerves?

***How can I keep in shape over the winter?

Thank You|||Baseball (or Softball) is still mostly about catch the ball, throw the ball, and hit the ball.

Volleyball is good for many of the same reflexes as softball plus it should keep you in physical condition. Be specific with the weight training with emphasis towards strengthening your wrists and forearms. Swing a bat as much as you can to tune your hand to eye coordination. Hitting golf balls can also help you develop timing.

One diet tip. Reduce your sodium intake. Unless you are in a desert climate, most people consume too much salt / sodium. It is bad for you in several ways.|||Alright well first off you wanted to know what kind of exercises you could do to strengthen your muscles. Well from what it sounded like in the info that you provided, your coach will be having you girls weight training twice a week after school, correct? So my best opinion would be to listen to his advice and ask him some of these questions as well and see what he has to say, because since he is there and I am not I can only tell you what to do while he can show you. However I can give you a list of exercises that you can do to help tone up and strengthen your muscles overall.

Remember that to gain strength you should do 3 sets of beteen 5-8 reps for each exercises. That means that for whatever exercise you are doing you should be using a weight that you can only do 8 reps or less with before you physically can't do anymore. So if you are bicep curling 10 lb weights but you feel like you can do more then 8 reps then you need to increase the weight. To tone a muscle or to maintain what you have then your best bet is to do 4-5 sets of 10-15 reps.

Alright for the exercises themselves I would recommend doing an arm routine and a leg routine. You could do back and chest too but it would only help you minimally for the sport of softball. Arm and leg strength are more important. Some good exercises for your arms would be:

Bicep Curls: Just take a barbell or a pair of dumbbells and stand straight up slowly curling the weight up to your chest then lowering it slowly. Here is a website that shows you exactly how to do it: http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightlifti鈥?/a>

Another way to work the biceps and the forearms at the same time is to do reverse curls which are the same as bicep curls only your palms face outward from your body.

Skull Crushers or Tricep Dips: are good exercises to do for your triceps which is the back of the arm. Here is how to do those: http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightlifti鈥?/a>

And if you want you can work the shoulders too by doing some of these exercises:

Overhead Press or Upright Rows shown on this page:

http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightlifti鈥?/a>

Those would be the exercises that I would do if I were you. I use those exercises as part of my workout program and they work very good for me.

As for legs I would very simply go running. Running is the best way to get your legs in great shape, especially long distance running mixed with sprinting.

Another leg exercise would be squats or lunges. Both work on endurance and will really tone your legs.

If you are looking for exercises that you can do with weights to work your legs then I would recommend leg presses, your gym or weightroom will more than likely have a leg press machine, where you sit down and press against a plate with your legs. Your coach will be able to show you this machine if you don't know what it looks like.

If you want I can give you specific exercises that are good for your chest and back too, but as I said, for softball it isn't entirely necessary.

As for your diet, I wouldn't recommend going too crazy. Try to get a lot of carbs in your diet, especially early in the morning so that you will have energy throughout the day. Try and keep your fats to a minimum and make sure you get protein after every workout. I would try and stay somewhere around 2000-2300 calories in your day, because you will be burning off a lot during practice and games. Make sure to get a fair amount of fruits and vegetables as well.

When it comes to nerves I have found that experience is the best cure. i was nervous when I first started playing varsity sports, but as you get better and get the experience on the field you will find that it's no big deal playing in front of people. You will make mistakes and people might laugh but ya know what, you are out there giving it your all and so you have nothing to be ashamed of.

It can be difficult to maintain the same level of fitness that you have over the summer during the winter months. I would say try to find a place where you can run indoors, your highschool, or a local gym. Also if you have the money to spare it can be veyr good to get a gym membership so that you can workout over the winter. Also doing things in your own home can help. A good ab routine can be done at home and depending on the intensity it can keep your endurance up, while giving you a six pack in the process. Running up and down your stairs, and other things that don't involve weights is good such as squats, lunges, pushups, and jumping rope.

Alright well I think I answered all of your questions, but please if you have absolutely any other questions at all, now or later please email me. I am always here to help, good luck again, and remember to email with any questions at all.

How are some ways to earn money for a softball trip?

I have been invited to play for an elite softball tournament this summer in Utah but the expenses are a little steep so I am trying to find some good ways to raise money. How do you break in a softball/baseball glove?

I just got a new softball glove and I need to break it in because I have softball practice tomorrow!|||put some good oil on it, shaving cream even works great!

then put a baseball/softball in the pocket and put it under ur mattress

u can also put it under ur pillow when u sleep, but u might not want to put the ball in it then :)

also, just go out and play catch in ur backyard for a bit

for long term, keep oiling it and make sure the glove doesn't fold the wrong way|||put it open under a matress

or...

The most popular method for forming the pocket of your baseball glove (other than playing catch) is to place a baseball (or softball) in the pocket and tie the glove shut with shoelaces, string or even a belt. There are also several products that are designed to hold the baseball glove shut and in the proper position while it is not in use.|||Oil it up, play catch, keep a ball in it. Hit it around the infield with a bat. Throw it in the dryer on low heat. tie a rope around and drag it down the road with your bike. Oil it up again.|||Get some glove oil, lube it up, and use it as much as possible. But when not using it, keep a ball in it under you mattress.|||Shaving cream works great

So does conditioning oil

When you put it away, keep a baseball/softball in it|||Tumble it in the clothes drier at no heat or very low heat. Rub in Neats Foot oil.|||Keep throwing the ball into the glove.|||sit on it, stick it under a couch leg. just play with it constantly. play catch with yourself. gotta break it in!|||rub shaving cream on it then put it under your mattress

What muscles does Softball use and what kind of drills can I do to strenghten them?

Just to let you guys know, I've been playing softball ever since I was 4, (I'm 14 now), but I'm playing at a higher level now. I want activities that I can do when I'm not at practice. Also, I'm a 3rd baseman and I sometimes batcatch.|||It's not so much the muscles as the coordination, especially hand-eye. I would keep running, maybe mix in some sprinting, and throw, throw, throw. Build up your throwing arm. As a 3rd baseman, you'll need to make strong, accurate throws, so practice throwing until it becomes second nature. Good luck.|||I would say leg and arm muscles.|||running do crooss training on the elyptical push ups and good reflexes and hand eye coordination|||sprints- lots of them. there's also a drill where you get someone to roll you tennis balls from one side to another as you pick them up in correct fielding position. The arm strong helps develop arm strength and catching balls with a soft pad instead of a glove should help develop soft hands. oh and of course as much batting cage time as possible

What do colleges look for in softball players?

I ply softball and want to get a full scholarship. But i need to know what college recuiters look for in softball players and the best colleges. Help please.|||-Hustle

-Good Grades

-A player who is willing to learn/be coached

-A player with the SKILLS to rep their school|||First of all, they look for drive. You must be able to put yourself out there and contact each college you might be interested in first. They look for hard-working players- the first one on the field and the first one off. They look for good team-mates, players with positive attitudes.

A slow pitch softball diamond is actually 61 ft on a side. How far is it from home to second base?

The softball diamond forms 2 right triangles when a line is drawn from home to second base. Use the legnth of one side as the legnth for the legs and substitute into the Pythagorean Thereom.

ROUND TO THE NEAREST TENTH.|||Home to 2st base = 61 ft

1st base to 2nd base = 61 ft

Right angle at 1st base

Home to 2nd base =x

x = sq rt(61^2 + 61^2)|||You already answered this yourself. Use the Pythagorean Thereom.

A虏 + B虏 = C虏|||This would be the same as an isosceles right triangle. It would be 61ft x (square root of 2) = ~86.3ft

This is rounded of course...

How can I throw different pitches in slow pitch softball?

I'm the pitcher for my softball team, and I'd like to learn to throw some different pitches.

It's a slow pitch league, but we don't pitch with an arc. So keep that in mind.

Anyone with experience got any tips?

Thanks!|||The key in slowpitch is to hit all the areas of the plates strikezone. For example, when u pitch with an arch hit the middle then the next pitch the right or left side and again the other side. never throw a back to back meatball pitches cause good hitters will crush it...i seen good pitchers even throw knuckle balls to different parts of the plate, that is good strategy. hope it helps...|||Since it is slow pitch, it really doesn't matter at all.

How hard is it to get onto a division III softball team?

I am interested in playing softball at Suffolk University in Boston. I did not play varsity softball in high school but I did play on a travel team. I've always been told I have had a natural talent for softball and would really like to play. How hard is it to get on a division III softball team?|||Hard to say. Was wondering what is the difference between the two kinds of shorts, they are both made out of the same material.. I don't think there is any difference other than that.

What are some careers in softball besides actually playing?

I play softball all the time and I want to do something after high school with it, but I don't know a whole lot about careers in softball besides actually playing the sport.|||I play softball and love it. You could be an umpire or coach. You can be a coach at a college or a town. I can't think of anything else really. I play catcher and it's awesome, I would play the sport. Oh, I guess you could be an annoucer person for games, especially if there's a team you liked then you get to watch them all for free.|||Managing, coaching, umpiring, personal trainer - just to name a few.

Why do high schools in Iowa play their softball season during the day over summer break?

I think it's totally ridiculous. They play from the time summer break starts until middle of July then start school second week of August. And, they don't want you take vacation during softball season. When are you supposed to enjoy your summer break? Does anyone know why they do this?|||They want to prepare you for life in the real world. When you won't get the Summer off.|||They don't want to interfere with academics.

How do you determine the winning pitcher in softball?

In a 9 inning baseball game you have to pitch 5 innings min to get a decision, how many in a 7 inning fp softball game. If you come in relief winning 3-1 in the 3rd with bases loaded, do you get a save or a win?|||In a seven-inning high-school baseball game, the starting pitcher must pitch at least four innings to be eligible for the win (NFHS rules). My GUESS is that it's the same for softball, but the NFHS doesn't make their rules available for free.

In the situation you describe, the relief pitcher in question would most likely get the win if that team didn't lose the lead for the rest of the game. If credited with a win, that pitcher can NOT be credited with a save as well. It's one or the other.

Again, I can't say this with 100% accuracy because I don't have a softball NFHS rulebook with me. I'm not sure you're referring to a game played under NFHS rules, either (but it sounds like it). Check with your league.

What I CAN say with certainty is that if this was NFHS BASEBALL, your relief pitcher would get the win if the official scorer made the correct decision.|||I should have said to give br549 the Best Answer. I'm a big fan of supporting answers with actual sources, and that's what (s)he did.

|||From rule 9-6 article 6 NFHS fastpitch rules;

a. If the starting pitcher has pitched the first FOUR innings or more and the team is ahead when the pitcher is replaced and it holds the lead for the remainder of the game, the starting pitcher shall be the winning pitcher.

b.4. Generally, the relief pitcher credited with the win is the pitcher who is pitching when the team takes the lead and holds it for the rest of the game. However, if the relief pitcher pitches only a short while or not effectively and a succeeding relief pitcher enters ad does better work in keeping the lead, the latter shall be granted the win.

So to simply answer your question, you (or your DD) get the win.|||Most of the time the you don't have to worry about it. Because in fastpitch softball one pitcher normally pitches the whole game. Softball pitchers can pitch day after day. Because the way they pitch is more natural then the way a guy would pitch so it doesn't do anything to there shoulder. But if it did happen my guess is it would go by how many inning the pitcher was in for. And if they kept the team in the lead or helped them gain the lead.|||Are you talking about little league baseball? Because anything above that you just have to be the pitchers when your team goes ahead. In this situation if the pitcher that came in in the 3rd inning was the last pitcher to pitch they would get the save. If someone pitched after them then the would have a no decision.

How do I prepare for softball tryouts in March?

I think it's in March...

14, freshman, never been on a school team before, not in very good shape but I love baseball/softball so I plan to tryout for the softball team. What do I need to do?|||It really depends on what your coach is looking for. If you can, talk to some of the girls who were on the team last year to see what the coach expects. If you can't, then just start doing a little bit of everything. I recommend running to build stamina, get outside and throw as much as possible to get your arm in shape, and make try (if you have access to a batting cage) to get a few swings in here and there. Gradually work your way up, don't try to do too much at once right away! Good luck in March!

What is the difference between Softball and Slow Pitch?

I joined a slow pitch league, and I realized it is a funky version of softball. What are the deminsions of the field? Are they as wide as a baseball field, or smaller like a softball field. Any other differences? Are there stealing bases?|||I suggest that you get a copy (it's free) of the official A.S.A. Rule Book. It is easy to understand. You could get it directly from A.S.A. in Oklahoma City, OK. Or, you could get one by contacting the Softball Department of your communities' Recreation %26amp; Parks Department. Good Luck.|||The field is the same as a fast pitch softball field, except for the pitcher's mound...i believe the bases are 60ft? Don't quote me on that...it's been a while. You can't steal bases..but the pitching count is somewhat different. You go up to bat with a 1-1 count. Also, if a man walks, he gets two bases and the woman behind in order can take the base or hit (their choice)...there are also home run limits in slow pitch, depending on the league. ENJOY! it's a heck of a lot of fun :-)|||Actually, Fast-pitch is the "funky" version of Slow-pitch!

FP was developed from the SP game. SP softball is still the most played amateur sport in the US. Most SP is recreational, but some leagues/teams get VERY serious! There are many National championship venues, and lots of money spent. It can be fun, but give me fast-pitch any day! That is my favorite.

Field dimensions are the same for both FP, and SP. There is no "mound" in either game. Pitching distances vary from 38' for womens 16", to 53' for mens major division.

Some divisions do allow base stealing after the ball reaches the plate. On the 60' bases it is still possible to have some "close ones".

There are some which use homerun limits, some do not. There is co-ed ball with rules such as even number of men/women on the field, a man draws a walk, he goes to second base. This discourages walking a man to get to a weaker female hitter, but some leagues adopt a ruling that all get two bases on a walk.

The 16" game is played with a ball the size of a grapefruit, and can be quite fun.

Some of the industrial level mens games get real intense, and a lot of action can take place on the smaller field.

Some slow pitch starts the batter with a 1-1 count, but not all does. There are some that play a "one-pitch" count. You get one pitch, you either walk, hit, or KO but you only get ONE chance. Those games move fast, and allow for a lot of participation.

Bottom line is, there are all sorts of variations in softball. But when you factor in youth leagues, there are in baseball as well.

Pick what you enjoy and have fun!

Just don't give us umpires a hard time!

Should I buy a fastpitch softball bat with or without warranty?

I want to buy a new softball bat and I play fastpitch softball- high school level. I'm planning on joining a league as well. Should I buy a bat with warranty or without warranty? If it's WITHOUT warranty, then its $30 cheaper. If I buy it WITH warranty, then it's $30 more expensive. The warranty is 400 days and I want to buy an Easton Fastpitch Bat. It has a light weight aluminum shell with a composite inner tube.|||Well, for one... why buy warranty on something you're just going to be hitting a ball with?

It's gonna get beat up anyways. :)

I'd say go without the warranty,

It's a bat, not a prized possesion. :D

What are good strength building exercises for softball players?

I'm joining the softball team and I want to be the best. But i have to have lots of strength and power. I need help with a workout plan to whack that ball out of this world. And the throw faster then the speed of light. Also if there's any other tips feel free. Thank you so much !!!|||Find some Kryptonite!

Actually, there are a few exercises that will help with your whole game. Throwing, batting, running all require the same strengths. You need to get your core strong, your legs and your upper body.

Leg strength can be achieved by doing lots of squats, lunges, jumps, and short sprints.

Upper body for the arms - do some bench press. That is a good overall weight lifting exercise for softball.

Pushups are good as well. You can do several variations on the pushups to keep it interesting.

Core - crunches, medicine ball routines ( or just use a heavy bag ),

flat back hold (in pushup position but on your elbows and toes, back flat - hold this position for 60 seconds, rest and repeat) this one is tough but a good one for the core.

Remember to give yourself a day to rest between these workouts. A month or two of this and you should be in great shape.

How to stop throwing the bat in softball?

Softball is my favorite sport, but I have one small "perk." I have a bad habit of throwing the bat, and its making my team get an out. I get a warning every game. I have no clue why it's so hard for me to hit the ball, drop it, and run. Help? Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!|||Its a head thing. You have to just practice fundamentals if it is becoming so much a problem. It sounds like you are hitting and letting go of the bat all in one motion. You also lose power in your swing when you do that because you are not fully following through on your swing. Try this....put it in your head not to let go of the bat until you take a step towards first with your Front foot. This would mean your swing has stopped and it should just drop to the ground when you let go.|||Try hitting off a tee or someone pitching to you and focus on not letting go and finishing your swing. On the positive side if your able to let go of the bat mid-swing your not rolling your hands (: Learning to finish your swing should eliminate the desire to let go of the bat.|||i have a girl on my team that does the same exact thing. haha. just go out into the yard, have someone fake pitch you the ball, fake swing and then practice SETTING down your bat and running. It has to become a habit just like it did to start throwing the bat.|||I used to do that.. what you're doing is letting go of the bat to run while you're still swinging, causing it to go flying... what you should do is wait just a little longer to let go. I fixed it almost instantly after I told myself to do that.

How do I break in my new softball glove?

I got a new first-basemen softball glove about two weeks ago. I've used it at practice, put shaving cream in it, and placed it under my mattress.

It's close to being broken in but I would really love to use it during my tournament during the weekend.

Any suggestions on how to completely break it in?|||The Rawlings oil is best.....just don't get the 'baking' kit. You rub that stuff in and then put the glove in the oven to speed up the process....it can seriously dry out the leather and the manufacturers of the gloves do not recommend it.|||Rub in glove oil...you get it at Wal-Mart or your local sporting goods store. Use a string to wrap it around the glove with a softball in it. Or put it under your mattress.|||Get a can of mink oil, rub it in, put a ball in the pocket, close the pocket around the ball and tie it shut. I use a big rubber band. Leave it for a couple of days and you're ready to play.

Use the mink oil to keep it conditioned. Happy ball playing!|||Put shaving cream on it put a ball in it and wrap string around it and put it in the oven at 350 for 10 min..|||Purchase some mink oil.

Scoop out a generous amount.

Rub hands together briskly until oil is warm.

Apply and rub in generous amount of oil to the area where you want to create the pocket.

Insert ball into glove then tie shut with shoe strings.

Wrap mit with ball inside in old blanket.

Place blanket wrapped mit on driveway.

Drive back and forth over mit until inspection reveals mit is ready for tournament!

(If you don't have the guts to do this, you can hit it repeatedly with a sledge hammer or rubber mallet. Just keep the blanket around it so you don't mar the leather!)|||1.Shaving Cream

2.Glove Oil

3.Put your oven on at 350, then put a softball in the pocket put rubberbands around the glove and put it in the oven for an hour then play catch.|||There are several ways you can break in your glove! What i did was i put some conditioner in the glove Then put a softball in the glove and wrapped it with rubber bands! Trust me it works alot better! GL|||there are 3 ways i know of.1- buy glove oil from your local sports store and rub a little bit of it all over the glove and repeat till you have the right feeling.2-put a softball in the glove put a towel around it and drive over it with the car.3- (probably the best way) whenever you warm-up use that glove and whenever your team is hiting grab a soft ball and keep throwing it hard into your glove and catching it. hope this helps|||I used to put shaving cream or baby oil in my baseball glove, put the baseball in the pocket, wrap the glove around the ball as tight as possible, and tie it off with rope....Remember, as tight as possible....the glove comes out formed perfectly....|||i always cook my gloves. Look online for directions on how to do it so you dont burn it though. I am also pretty sure that if you go to a sporting goods store they sell some kind of oil with baking instructions on it.|||put a ball in it then put it under your mattress and go to sleep|||This is wat i did i had someone run over it with a car and a bike and i went to sleep on it but just get the glove oil|||A light coat of WD40 and keep working it, about 1 movie at home (or 2 hours). When you go to sleep wrap it in an old towel and back under the matress. Have fun this weekend!!!|||i always just squeeze my new gloves and jump on them.

How many seasons of softball does it take to get really good?

I play softball its only my second season but girls on my team have been playing for years and its a little embrassing cuz were not in the same leval sooo how many seasons of softball does it take to get really good?|||That's a good question.

It really depends on the person, the training and coaching you receive, how much effort you put into the game and how naturally talented you are. Don't give up, you can catch them with a little effort.

Many of them have been practicing all year and are in great shape too. That really helps. Conditioning can make the difference between a naturally talented kid that doesn't play well and an average kid that plays really well. Think about that.

It also depends on your position. Pitchers, for instance are a highly skilled position. It can take many years to become an elite pitcher. The good pitchers start out young, maybe 10 and practice an hour every day. Then as they get older they throw 100-200 pitches every day plus other strength training at home. With personal coaching lessons in between. Pitchers are the hardest workers on the field. Generally putting in 1-2 extra hours every practice including all the regular practice. Sometimes they act like princesses, but don't give 'em too much grief.

Fielder positions have to do much of the same, they need to spend time throwing for accuracy and speed or distance if your an outfielder. Practice fielding ground balls of all speeds, learn how to handle slow rollers or hard burners that may take a bad bounce and still grab and make the throw over to first for the out.

Then there are all the plays you need to learn.

Of course there is hitting, you have to become a good hitter. You don't need to be a homerun or power hitter, just a good contact and placement hitter. Good bunters are very sought after as well as slappers.

So, it can take several years to a lifetime to become a really good player. Some will tell you after 20 years they still have a lot to learn.

Just keep putting in the effort, hustle every chance you get. Help other players and coaches and listen and research and study the game. If you have a passion for it you will become that really good player in no time.|||I've played softball for 7 years and it took me about 3 or 4 to become one of the best on the team. It really depends on the person though. I've known people who have played longer than I have and still aren't good player. If you're athletic, have a good coach, and put the time in to practice, then I'm sure within maybe another year you'll become pretty decent. I would also suggest playing travel ball. Teams that travel often push you to become way better. Hope I've helped.|||It depends on how hard you work on it. It may be shorter for some or longer for others but one thing is for sure you wont get really good overnight. Make sure you follow your coaches instructions and you can do extra to improve on your weakness.

Make sure you remember to improve on your skills, playing positions, and make sure to condition yourself

What are the standard softball field lengths?

I'm doing a project and i need the standard girls softball field lengths. And if you have any other information about softball details. Please if you can, list any websites for more accurate information.|||There are no standard lengths, they can vary by league, association, age and game (fast pitch, slow pitch, 3-pitch, etc)

What are the differences between baseball and softball?

I play baseball and I want to play softball for my school so I need to know the differences in rules. I know that they use a bigger ball and pitch differently and you can't steal bases but what else?|||The bases are closer to each other.|||The Field is smaller. The runners haveta stay on (toughing) a base until the ball leaves the pitchers hand, base stealing is not allowed. The Ball is delivered underhanded. 7 innings instead of 9. Pitcher must have BOTH feet onthe pitchers rubber and can only take like one step towards plate to deliver ball|||the balls|||The size of your balls.|||distance from the mound is shorter, distance between the bases is shorter and you can steal the bases, you just have to wait until the ball is released from the pitchers hand. Other than that it is basically the same.|||everything kimtastic said plus the ball is bigger and softer!|||Baseball- 9 innings

What is the best way to break in my new softball mit?

I bought a new softball mit about a week ago and I put a softball in it and put rubberbands around it and left it for two days. I then used it to play a little and it is still pretty tough to use. I need to soften it up before my summer season start in june. Any suggestions?|||The best way I've found is to use some glove oil you can find any where that sells gloves. Rub it all over your glove (but just a small amount) then put the softball in it a tie it closed. Leave it alone for a day or so and then play some catch with it. You can repeat this a few times to get your glove to the optimal playing condition. Here's a site that goes a little more in depth and gives you links for glove oil.|||There's this oil stuff you can put in it, and you can put in under your mattress, yeahh...That's all I know|||Play catch!|||Aren't there some creams/ conditioners you can put on your mit to make it softer? Sorry I dont know what they're called or who makes them, but you can probably get them at Wal-mart or Academy, or your local sporting goods store.|||1. Use it. A lot.

2. go back to where you bought the glove and see if they have any glove softener. Those products work pretty well|||Try taking a softball and throwing it into your mitt as hard as you can for a while. If that doesnt work just put a softball in your glove, put some oil on it and wrap up a string around it and leave it alone for a while.|||put it in the oven for a couple of minutes.|||try putting something heavy heavy on it...or try to put a ball in it and put tape on it...that might work|||well i played soft ball and mine would not form so i stuck a soft ball in the glove and stuck it under the cusions of my couch it worked a little %26lt;just leave it there for about 5 dayz%26gt;

How can I break in my new softball glove without using oils or creams?

So I decided to tryout for the softball team and I got a glove and I'm trying to break in my glove before tryouts. What's a good way to break in a new glove without having to buy any oil or anything like that?|||You can do a lot of things to break in a glove.

The most efficient way to do it is to use it. Play catch with a friend or teammate.

You could just throw a softball into it over and over and over as well.|||Ok so I just got a new glove the day before yesterday...... and by the next day I could use it! So what I did is let one of your parents or friends throw to you softly or I sat on it for like 10 minutes and that helped a little. And also you may HAVE to use glove oil it helps to use it much faster..... it doesn't hurt the glove or make the ball slip out of it....... or just keep the ball in it a tie a rubber band or shoelace around the glove and let it sit. :))|||well it depends how much time you have. try leaving a softball in it and then wrapping a rubber band around it for as long as possible. also, try pushing down on the web part whenever you're not using it, just to soften it a bit.|||put a softball in it close it and put it under your mattress that's what I did with my baseball glove.|||throw the softball into it over and over again|||Put a ball in it and put it under your mattress or pillow for a few night. It's uncomfortable, but it does work.|||put a softball in it and tie the glove closed and leave it!|||practice with it as much as possible. i would say bend it, but that may mess it up|||Put your glove in an oven for a couple of minutes. Most, definatly keep an eye on it.

How should I improve my running for softball?

Ive started playing softball in a rec league with a bunch of friends. It's just for fun, but I still kind of suck. Unless I get a good hit, I cant make it to first because Im so slow lol. I didnt realise how out of shape Im really in...

What kind of exercises can I work on at the gym so I can improve my running?|||Run short distances fast--this will improve speed.

Run long distances slow--this wil improve stamina.

Once a week run some hills--this will improve strength.

Plan a rest day between each workout to give your body time to recover.

How can I calm down during a softball game?

Everytime I pitch in a softball game.. I start to loose my patience when I start to throw bad, than after that i keep throwing badly, and i also start to loose my patience with my fielders too. Any tips about how to calm down?|||chew gum in the dug-out. it calms people.|||Say "one...one...one...one...one..鈥?slowly to yourself. It slows down your heart rate and therefore makes you calm down.

One of my teammates says it outloud while shes up to bat.

And I say it before i get into the box up to bat just to calm me down

it works!

|||I get the same problem. Chewing gum in the dug out helps, and trying to relax when your in on the bench. And when you're on the field I usually just step back and stand there focus on the plate and my catcher and just close my eyes and take a deep breath and try to forget everything, then pretend its a new game and start over. it works, well for me! hope this helps you.|||Usually when this starts to happen the catcher or another infielder will come talk to you. Your coach can only go out once, so your teammates need to pick you up. Our catcher will come to the mound and tell a joke to get our pitcher loose again.|||I had this problem when I played baseball and starting pitching bad. I would take some deep breaths as I walked around the mound. So I would recommend walking around the circle while taking a few deep breaths. When yo put your toe on the pitching rubber close your eyes and take one last deep breath. Then focus on your spots.|||Chew gum, or, if cheering team mates bother you, ask them to stay quiet. im not a pitcher, so idk, but i catch and that..... still never happens to me. What should I wear to my first softball practice?

Tomorrow I start softball for the first time, and we haven't gotten uniforms yet.

So what should I wear?

The practice is at 6 PM so should I wear pants, jeans, or shorts?

And what kind of equipment should I bring?|||My favorite to wear for baseball practice was sweats or wind pants that have elastic at the ankles, comfortable tennis shoes for inside or spikes (cleats) for outside, a t-shirt under a tighter fitting sweatshirt, or a long sleave t-shirt under a cut off sweatshirt. a mitt is a must, and for women a sports bra is prolly a good idea. if you have long hair put it in a pony tail, and wearing a hat if you are outside might be a good idea. otherwise just make sure your hair is out of your face. bring water to drink, batting gloves if you have them...try to get some as soon as possible, but if you dont have them dont worry on the first day usually you start with more basics like running and conditioning to get everyone in shape. just make sure your comfortable running in the clothes you wear.|||Well if your living in a place where it snows, then wear pants. If not, then wear shorts.|||if its warm, wear shorts, probably bring a bat/mitt/batting gloves etc.|||Wear white clothes and see how dirty u can get them

What should I take for a before softball game meal for teenage girls?

My daughter is on the softball team with about 13 girls and 3 coaches. I signed up to take the meal for Monday's game. I have taken pizza before but that can be expensive. I need some ideas on foods that these girls wil like.|||its going to be expensive to feed 13 girls no matter what you bring pizza or otherwise.|||You can make your own pizza for cheap. Find a recipe for pizza dough (flour is cheap), a can of spaghetti sauce goes a long way, and then a package of cheese.

You can also do lasagna (a big pan of it serves like 16) and then salad on the side. Make-your-own deli sandwiches would probably go over well too.|||There's always Krystal/White Castle. Everyone loves those little square hamburgers, and the gas shouldn't kick in to them until after the game. :-)|||Well... if they are playing softball obviously they are athletes, so I would go for something healthy. Is this before or after the game? If it is before I would go for something extremely light... they will want to be able to fly around the bases and be have quick hands up at bat (don't want to be weighed down) If it is after the game I would go for sandwiches and orange slices. Sandwiches can be in expensive, if you buy normal deli meat and the kind on sale. The oranges are a classic after softball tradition!!!

Great coach/team for setting up meals for after the game!! I wish I had that all the years I played ball!!!!

How to hide a cartilage piercing for softball?

What are some good pitching coaches for softball?

I need to know if there are any good pitching coaches in Las Vegas for fastpitch softball. My team only has one pitcher and we need another one so that if she doesn't show we have a backup. And i really want to pitch.|||You've got the right idea. You need to start working w/ a coach if you are serious about wanting to learn how to throw, it is money well spent. But know that it's something that takes alot of work, you won't be an All Star overnight. How do you deal with a crazy softball coach?

My little sis is in softball for seven year olds and there is a coach that cheats and is really mean to the kids! What do I do if i am not a coach and just in the crowd? Should I say something or just relax?|||Well first this guy obviously is not playing by the rules, or better yet not even winning the game! Heres what you should do.

1. See if anybody Else in the crowd notices his actions

2. Find out all of the things he does that is considered cheating

3.Walk up to him and politley ask if that is fair to the other team or if thats against the rules

4.Get other people to tell this coach about it

5. Tell him that if he doesnt shape up and quit the cheating etc. the team will not participate.

If he is actually screaming at them or hurting them, you should contact the league office and report what you've seen.

If the league won't do anything, and you still can't live with the coach's actions, you should take your kid(s) off the team and find another team for them.|||Hit her in the head with the bat, show her whose boss.

What are the major differences between softball and baseball?

I have a friend who wants to join a church team, and I've tried helping her, but I feel as though I'm leading her in the wrong direction because I've only played baseball and can't remeber all of the rules of softball... So just the basic differences please! Thanks!|||The above answers are good for sanctioned softball games, however, I have played church softball leagues and these leagues have different rules than those listed above.

The difference with church softball is usually they are co-ed teams. With that, there are NO home runs, unless it is an "inside the park HR." If you hit it over the fence, you're out. Also, they will shorten the pitches. Some have 2 pitch maximum or you start with a 2-1 (2 balls, 1 strike count). Usually a foul ball on strike 3 is an out. ALSO, if a male batter is walked, he gets 1st base, if a female is walked, she gets 2nd base.

the main difference as you can see, is equalizing the teams, making it fair and fun for all. Although there is a league and competition, fun has precedence over competition. So, if you're friend is wanting to improve her skills at softball, avoid the church league and other "recreational" leagues. Look for something competitive.|||Contrast:

1) The balls used to play in baseball are smaller than ones in softball.

2) Bases are smaller, as well as outfields

3) Pitching in softball is underhand, while in baseball, it's overhand.

That's about it... that I can think of atleast.|||Softball is better more fun and in softball you can slap hit and etc.

softball you pitch underhand, baseball you pitch over hand.

in softball from the pitcher to the catcher is 49 feet and from base to base is 60 feet.

and baseball I think its 60 feet not sure though(I dont like baseball really).

A softball is bigger and a baseball is little cause boys cant handle big ones!haha!!!!!!

Yes you can bunt ,wtf is dude talking about above me?

Yeah Softball is better!!!!!!!!

the dude that commented first is a hater!!!!

Also in softball alot of pitchers hit for them self and can actully hit homeruns and stuff, unlike baseball where they have to have to have another person hit for them.

YAY ARIZONA JUST WON THE WOMENS COLLEGE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!!! =)|||The rules for fast-pitch softball are very similar to baseball except the bases are closer together and so is the pitching rubber. In slow-pitch softball there is no bunting, no stealing, a foul ball on the third strike is an out, some leagues limit the number of home runs a team can hit, there is usually four outfielders, the pitcher must pitch the ball so that it's maximum arc height is between the batters shoulder height and ten feet. This is not a complete breakdown of the rules, but it will give you a good idea of the differences.|||soft ball is on a much smaller field and pitched underhand. Long thin bats in softball adn they use metal at every level|||Well, Baseball is pitched overhand and softball is pitched underhand. In softball, the ball is nearly twice the size. The pitcher doen't hit in softball, there is a DP, similar to a designated hitter in the American League. The fields are usually much smaller and metal bats are always used.|||women play softball

men play baseball

thats a pretty big difference|||one bigger|||ok, well there are a lot of differences.

1. the pitching mound is closer in softball.

2. there isn't really a raised mound in softball like their is in baseball

3. a baseball is much smaller than a softball

4. in softball most teams use yellow balls in baseball they are white

5. the bases are closer in softball and the out feild is smaller

6. in softball you can't leave the base until the ball leaves the pitchers hand

7. softball pitchers pitch under hand and in baseball they pitch over hand.

8.you can slap hit in softball

9. softball players use metal bat and baseball players use wooden bats.

10. softball is cooler

for everybody who thinks that softball is easy to play you have apperantly never played the sport. softball players are extreamly athletic and could probably outplay most baseball player. i think softball players have quicker reaction because of the closness of the bases and they have to make very quick desicions.|||The biggest differance is the size of the ball, and the speed of the game. number of players.Three balls and two stikes.|||1. the size and density of the ball.

2. underhand pitching which allows softball pitchers to throw numerous games in a day due to the natural movement of the shoulder as opposed to the unnatural movement of a baseball pitcher.

3. the field dimensions which allow for almost zero miscues on ground balls

4. the amount of strikeouts in softball due to the mound being so close to home plate. (too close if you ask me)

5. the fact you can't leave a base until the pitcher releases the pitch. makes it difficult to steal

that's about it i guess. :)|||umm...baseball is a sport, and the other is a way for women to feel like they are actually good at sports.|||"anyone" can play softball..."athletes" play baseball

How much should i charge for softball video freelance work?

I'm 17 and have about 2-3 years of filming and editing experience with final cut. A softball team has hired me to film and edit a highlight dvd for the team. I use a canon xh a1 which records in 1080 HD. I would be filming around 3-4 games for the team and then compiling the highlights. Whats a reasonable price to charge?|||Hmm... I've always wondered what price to charge also, when filming events. if I were doing that same thing...

- the cost to get there (gas), the cost of a ticket (if they charged you)

- if the final product will be on DVD, then the price of 1 DVD

So, travel costs + DVD cost. Experience alone is great payment!

What is a good composite fastpitch softball bat for high school?

I am looking for a new bat for my first year of high school softball. I have seen a couple but I don't know what is good or bad.|||Megan M gave some good advice. The vendetta is a good bat. My daughter plays with the DiMarini CF4 but is also verrrrry pricey. The Louisville Slugger Jessica Mendoza bat is a very nice bat that is also inexpensive|||www.JustBats.com

Try that ^

The bat i have now is a Demarini Vendetta, i LOVE it. :)

But its kind of expensive.

Is this your first year in softball, or just your first year in high school softball?

I wouldnt spend too much money on a bat if its your first year in softball.

Try Easton, or one of the cheaper Demarini bats?

There pretty good, and cheap!

Hope i helped. :)|||First off, don't spend too much money till you've found something that suits you.

Ask your coach if they have any ideas, or try the local store and explain this is your first year.

Look at baseball/softball sites online: there's youtube videos where players try out different bats.

Whats the difference between pitching a softball and a baseball?

Baseball players pitch like sideways (i dont know how to explain it) and softball players pitch some weird way i dont get.|||A softball player pitches the ball almost underhand but they have the windmill added into it. It is also is faster than a baseball. Then baseball is overhand and is basically like throwing the ball.|||The main difference is, Baseball players pitch over hand and softball players usually make a complete rotation before they pitch and they also throw under arm.

Another difference between the two, a softball is a bigger ball and it's a bit slower even though some exceptionally good pitchers could throw it very fast. A Baseball, on the other hand, is harder and smaller. It could travel even faster than a Softball.

I hope this helped!|||Baseball is pitched overhand. The closest to underhand they can get is submarine style. Softball is a complete rotation and released underhand. They usually will hit their glove on their leg to transfer energy. Their feet also move differently. You can't step outside of the pitching circle. Yes, baseballs travel faster, but the mound in softball is over 20 feet closer so you reaction time is about the same. Our pitcher on my team could throw around 65 MPH. However, she is one of the best in the nation and went on to college. 65 MPH in softball is about 90-100 MPH in baseball.|||Softball pitches underhand or windmill. (Windmill is a term that isn't really used anymore) Baseball throws overhand. "sideways" is called "sidearm" Not everyone pitches that way. Make sense?|||softball pitchers pitch underhanded on a flat surface. baseball pitchers pitched overhand on a hill. side arm, or sideways, in baseball is a style that will hurt your arm if you throw too much.|||Baseball throws overhand, softball, underhand. Sideways in baseball is side arm.|||in softball u have to throw it under_hand and in baseball u have to throw it over_hand.|||Baseball: Sidearm and Overhand

Softball: Underhand|||I dont want to mean but that has to be the dumbest question i have ever seen in my life

What are the big differences between softball and baseball?

Besides being boys and girls, as well as the ball size, what rule differences are there between baseball and softball?|||Well, besides the ball size, the field is smaller. Also, some of the equipment is different (the bats and sometimes gloves) Also, in fast-pitch (at least on the high-school level) many girls wear masks on their helmets, as a safety precaution. Another difference is the pitch. Baseball is overhand and Softball is underhand. There are many similarities, but there are a few different techniques.

Also, in high-school softball, you can't lead off the base to steal until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. I'm not sure about the lead off rules in baseball, but I think that they can pretty much leave the base whenever. But, someone may have to correct me on that one. Hope this helped some!|||http://www.helium.com/items/827355-why-you-pitch-underhanded-in-softball

If you read up on the history of softball you will learn that softball was actually developed for men (NOT A CHICK SPORT) In fact pitching fast balls from a closer range is much more difficult than what men do in baseball!

|||well okay theres a whole bunch of differences i will try to tell u as much as i can think of first of all baseball is a mans game softball on the other hand is a chicks sport. The balls are different in baseball the actual ball is white and much harder than then one in softball which is kind of like a tennis ball. in softball u pitch underhand while in baseball u pitch overhand.also the pitchers mound is closer in softball there is a whole bunch of length differences in these sports i wont list them all:)|||In softball they pitch underhand, in baseball it's overhand. That's probably the biggest difference. Also the distance between the pitchers mound and home place is shorter in softball than in baseball. There's a bunch of differences, you can look online if you're really interested.|||Unlike softball, baseball doesn't suck|||the ball flys forethere

What are the best colleges for softball?

Ever since I touched a softball, it's become my life and I want to keep it that way. I plan on going to college on a softball based scholarship. I would like to know what are the top softball colleges in the country, as well as a very good school.|||I'm exactly the same way, I'm only a sophmore but I'm hoping that sometime within the next couple of years I can recieve a scholarship to either the University of Tennessee or Northwestern.

Personally I think you should go after one of your favorite schools, if they aren't that good you can still build the program when your there.

And since I didn't exacly answer your question, University of Florida is one of the best softball schools in the country, and one of the best education schools in the country.|||the best would be the arizona's, tennessee, texas, northwestern, and ucla there are others but i cant think of them off of the top of my head... i want to go to any of these schools, i figured if im going to dream i minus well make it big. im like you i plan on going with a softball scholarship, i get to make a video soon to send to the colleges i want to go to im excited. good luck.|||Arizona and Arizona State are two of the top D1 schools for softball. So are Texas and Tennessee. Those have produced the most team USA members in recent memory

What would be good for a softball goodie bag for my friend?

She is going to the little league softball world series and i wanted to get her a little something but dont know what to give her.|||what ever her team color is, colored bag with a yellow piece of paper on the outside that looks like a softball with her name and number on it. Use ribbon with softballs on it to tie the top, and the other color of her team for tissue paper inside. You could also try going to a sporting goods store and finding little things to put in there, too.|||i don't know which brand you friend like most.for me ,i like coach bags.a special liking ,may be you can try it .http://www.handbagstopsales.com ,i have brought some handbags from there ,it's nice.|||Head bands, ribbons, eye black, bubble gum, sun flower seeds, maybe even a cool titanium bracelet that will help her perform- those are always really cool! And they really work!

What softball drills can I practice at home by myself?

I'm going to start playing softball next season, but I want to start working now. Does anyone know of any drills that I could practice by myself at home?

Thanks!|||Well, i play travel ball soo i asked the same question before and know im getting better and better. soo i would pick your position you would like. (you could pick one or more). But i would get in shape by doing sucides,do anything to make your feet faster. OUTFIELD: pratice pop-ups,linedrive,and ground balls. INFIELD: ground balls, line drives and doing throwing. If yyou need anymore info plz contact me!!|||defense wise: is that pick your position and go from there. refering to your name you play centerfield. find someone(a friend, brother, sister, family member) and have them hit some pop flys to you or get a pitching machine and aim it really high and go from there. focus on reading the ball. play alot of long catch to strengthen up your arm.

offensive wise: find someone to throw you some, take alot of cuts. work on form.|||if you pitch id do 100 arm circles. it is where you have ur left front foot in front and yourright foot in the back. and pitch at least 300 pitches.. and for hitting you can hit small wooflballs for you batting. like after u get used to hitting small woofle ball. then u hit a softball its like hitting a beach ball. lol... and maybe ur dad can hit grounders for you. and hit some pop flys to you. and running fence laps. and bases.. also work on sliding. and if your not a pitcher you may want to especially work on the position you are gonna play. :) have fun!!|||well for any outfeild position or for that matter and defensive position doin things with both hands i best. practice grabbin random things you need but do it with two hands (your catchin hand first followed by you throwin arm to make sure nothing pops out). also just watch team usa. you will pick up alot or from any college team. get a glove and just work it in so your hand fits perfectly in it. watch girls swing ( only good batters) and take a bat to your back yard and do what they do. watch for to cover bases and stuff lik that. the rest will come with time.

hope i helped. good luck =)

What is the difference between fastpitch and slowpitch in softball?

I finally registered for softball. I will be doing 12U, and I want to know what is the difference between fastpitch and slowpitch in softball? (baseball for girls, just incase you dont know). Thanks!|||The speed of the pitching. Fast pitch the pitchers really whip it. Slow pitch usually has an arc so it is not tough to hit.|||"Baseball for girls"? If you're saying softball is the female version of baseball, you're mistaken. The two sports are completely different and you can play either sport not based on your gender.

Fast-pitch: No arc in the ball. The ball probably won't travel anywhere above your chest. Usually travels in a straight line and then breaks. Pitches vary in speed. My high school pitcher throw between 58-65 MPH on average (including breaking balls) and she has reached 70 MPH. She was one of the best in the nation, so you might not see that fast. You'll probably see at least 40 MPH. The bases are closer together (I believe, not 100%), you can steal (don't know if there's a difference), fields are smaller (about 200-225 feet).

Slow-pitch: Some people call this this the sport for people who are not coordinated. However, it does take a lot of coordination still. The ball must be pitched in an arc. The ball goes a lot slower. You have to wait on the ball to get to the plate. Doesn't exist very much at the high school level. Different bats, so if you're getting a bat make sure you know that it's either fast-pitch or slow-pitch.

I'd play fast-pitch because if you ever want to play high school, you'll probably be playing fast-pitch. If you start now, you'll already know how to play. It's a lot easier to learn it now than to switch over.|||Fastpitch is where there is a full wind up on the pitch. 360 degrees. The ball goes straight.

Slowpitch is where your arm is in a half circle and there is a huge ark on the ball before it hits the plate.

Fastpitch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6wphY2EqpE%26amp;feature=related

Slowpitch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr6_cX38-JA%26amp;feature=related|||Well first of all good luck in softball. Secondly if you are in 12u you arent going to need to worry about slowpitch and fastpitch. there may be about 2 teams that may have a good enough pitcher to be called fastpitch. IN tournaments it will be much more competitive. But in slowpitch they use bigger balls and they pitch it much slower, they dont do a full wind up just back then swing forward. In fastpitch the pitch faster! I wish good luck to you and ur team! HAVE FUN!|||Great Question!

Fastpitch:

-360 Windmill

- Faster Speed

- 9 players on Field

-More Competitive

Slowpitch:

-For Fun

-BIG Ball

- Ball goes Up then Down (when being Pitched)

Hope I was of Help and have Fun|||Fastpitch you do sort of a windmill wind-up. Slowpitch is an underhand toss. and softball isn't only for girls. My dad and the adults at my church have their own league team.|||Um...the one called fast pitch has fast pitch. The one called slow pitch has slow pitch. It's very very confusing.

Hope this helps.|||Okay fastpitch is a windmill pitch which is going a lot faster. Slowpitch is like under hand|||about 45 mph

How can I soothe my sunburned shoulder so that I can play softball?

We had a softball tournament over the weekend, and, silly, I forgot sunscreen! I'm sunburned all over, but my shoulders are the worst. I get tears in my eyes when I lift my arm up, it hurts terribly. I'm a softball pitcher, so I must be able to do the softball windup, by performing a circle with my arm. It hurts to even attempt to do this, how can I soothe my sunburn?|||Use Aloe Vera Gel, it cools and helps healing. Keep it in the fridge and apply often! Once it gets cold, take it out and rub it on your sunburn. Another way to soothe your sunburn is to pour vinegar on your sunburn. Hope this helps.|||I am a pitcher too and once came across this. i normally dont burn but when i did..

take a cold bath or shower or use a rag with cold ice water and put it on it; take painkillers, try a numbing cream, wear a verry light shirt over it so it doesnt sunburn again; try aloe of course;

goodluck and remember to hit your corners haha.|||ok i am a pitcher to what i did was put normal aloe thenlet it dry hold ice on it then start doing your normal pitching wind up in the house to get used to it then before the big game put a little lotion on it helps loosen it up! Hope i helped good luck at the big game!|||That happened to me once. Just keep applying aloe vera gel, and keep trying to move your arms so that you'll eventually be able to do the wind up. You'll be fine in a couple days.|||this is gonna sound gross but I swear it works, i've done it for years. Mix Noxzema and hemorrhoid cream together. the combination takes out the burn and relieves your pain.

What is the correct way to throw a baseball/softball?

I am going to be playing a softball game with my friends and I havent played in a long time. I'm not that great at softball but if you could tell me how to throw a ball correctly (probably for distance/accuracy like a field position) It would help me save face in front of my friends.

PS I know they dont care either way because they are my friends but for my own prides sake I'd rather not be throwing "like a girl"|||Kind of a rough question to answer here..

I'd suggest just getting yourself a tennis ball and find a wall to throw at. Pick a spot and just keep tossing until you get a comfortable motion.|||well this is a really hard one to answer but

what you wanna do is-------%26gt;

-find a coftorable motion

-but make sure you go in a full rotation with your arm you dont wanna have a sidearm(:

-and find the right release point and your speed(:

What is the difference between slowpitch and fastpitch softball?

I'm going to be trying out for my high school softball team this year. I used to play softball when I was younger, but I'm not sure which version I played. I don't want to look like I don't know what I'm doing (even if I really don't).

THANKS!|||IN slow pitch the pitch has to be made in an arc where the pitch goes high and then come down across the plate. Fast pitch it comes in straight across the plate. I played fast pitch. I found it much easier to hit than slow pitch.|||The main difference is in the name:

Slowpitch requires the pitcher to throw the ball with an arc, thus forcing the pitches to come in slow and making it easier to hit.

Fastpitch, pitchers can throw as hard as they can (underhand). This makes it harder to hit because you have much less time to react. You need to learn to slap at the ball with a short quick swing if you're playing fastpitch.

The other main difference is that in fastpitch, base-runners can steal. They can leave the base as soon as the pitcher releases the ball. In slowpitch, there's no stealing (there are a few very competitive slowpitch leagues that allow it, but they are very rare).

The basics of the game are similar though in the sense that you hit the ball, run around the bases, score by crossing the plate, your out if you get tagged or don't make it to a base you're forced to or hit a pop up that's caught, etc.

Chances are that you played slowpitch as a kid and your high school team is fastpitch. |||The two forms are exactly the same, but with slowpitch softball, when the pitcher winds up, her arm only goes back halfway, and the ball is released very slowly. In fastpitch, the arm rotates in a full windmill, and the ball goes much faster. Normally, fastpitch is played in high school ball. If all else fails, ask the coach. Hope this helps!!! |||REally, you don't know?

Slowpitch is.....slowpitch.

Fastpitch is.....fastpitch.

Hellooooooo........|||slow pitch- the pitcher has to lob the ball.. the rule is usually that the ball at some point must be higher than the batters head..

fast pitch- just throw the ball over the plate|||the pitch is faster

the pitching mound is farther

and most girls hit it out in the outfield|||The speed of the pitch. So you probably played slow.|||OMG, you have got to be kidding!!!!!

How hard is it to make the varsity softball team at University of Delaware as a walk-on?

I was a 4 year varsity starter for my high school softball team. I made the all-county and all-conference teams for 3 years, and my team won county and state championship titles. Now that my high school career is over I'm interested trying out for the varsity softball team at the college I will be attending in the fall, the University of Delaware. Does anyone know how difficult this is, or if most walk-ons for this team get cut?|||I can not tell you specifically how it works at the University of Delaware but the best way to find out is to talk the head coach. Go ahead and email or call. He/She would be more than happy to talk to you about the walk-on tryout process and the probability of you making the team. I know at my school there are usually between six and ten girls that tryout but only one or two make the team. A lot of it depends on what the team is looking for.

What is the difference between soccer and softball cleats?

I know i probably sound really clueless, but i have played softball before and not soccer, and im planning on playing soccer and idk if i should buy new cleats or if i can wear the same ones i used in softball??? thnx for the help!|||yes, you have to get new ones. The shape of the cleats are different...soccer are usually round cone like shape and softball is more of a square and rectangle. The are also in a different pattern and location of the cleats. Soccer doesn't have a cleat in the front under your toes. The league will no allow you o play in anything other than soccer cleats .|||I've been playing travel fastpitch for 5 years and have had many many cleats. I usually use soccer cleats because they are lighter and easier to run in. I also pitch and soccer cleats aren't as heavy on my feet. A girl on my team plays soccer and softball and she wasn't allowed to use her softball cleats at her soccer game because softball cleats have an extra spike on the toe.|||though both games have somewhat similar cleats as the commonality in their regions. But there is the difference in both of the games cleats so you need to buy another uniform for your soccer.|||you need to buy new cleats!!! soft ball cleats are ment for dirt and they are rubber spikes and soccer cleates are meant for grass there fore they are i little bit more pointed at the tip of the cleat its as simple as that!

What are the college softball divisions & their differences?

I really would like to know a lot more about college softball, as I may want to make that a goal for college. I want to know about the different teams/colleges and the divisions.|||If you want to play college softball you need to take into account how good you are. If you go to a division one school with a good team, it will be extremely hard to get on the team. But if you go to a smaller school it will be easier. My favorite team is probably U of A wildcats for softball. They always do well and Michael Candrea the coach, is very good and has won many titles for that school's softball team.|||college softball divisions are divided the same way as other college sports. each school is in an athletic conference usually based on their location/region. some of the major conferences are: Big Ten(midwest), Big EAST(east), ACC(atlantic coast), Big 12(southwest), SEC(southeastern), Pac-10(pacific coast), Big west(west), Mountain West(west), ohio valley(ohio area), missouri valley(in name), MAC(mid-american), Conf.
