What's the difference between softball and baseball?

I am going into my schools softball team. I am a male and my questions are as followed. Do boys play softball or baseball? Is there a catcher in softball? And how do you have to pitch in softball? Thank You.|||Actually there are more male softball players than female!

There are two basic types of softball, Fastpitch which is played by both males and females, but predominantly females. Slowpitch which is also played by both sexes, but predominantly males (this is the bulk of softball played in the US). There are different styles of those games as well. Modified pitch which also can be played by both sexes but I have never seen a female play modified. 16" ball which is unisex and I have not seen it played in years. Then you have all male leagues, all girl league, and co-ed. There are catchers in all of them, and all pitch underhanded but use different styles.

Your school won't play competitive co-ed softball. Title IX will make you have a boys and girls team. If there is a boys team, it could be slow or fast pitch.|||softball is for girls and baseball is guys and in softball you pich under hand u have a bigger softball and the bats r diffrent and yes of course there is a catcher.. amda guys play BASEBALL

|||i dissagree with the statement of slowpitch being the bulk of softball in the us. fastpitch girls softball is played most highschools in the country, slowpitch mens,,, not so much. the us womens national team will be on espn next week... not the mens.

|||Baseball is usually for guy's, and softball is usually for girl's.

But there is a difference! For softball the balls are bigger, and for baseball the balls are smaller.

In softball there is two different kinds of pitching fast pitch and slow pitch.

In baseball there is only one kind of pitching.

|||okay umm some people answering are stupid! You get three strikes in softball and baseball ! DUH! and men play modified slowpitch not fastpitch becase most men cant get the stride needed for fastpitch! Its too far! The ball is different sizes! The base distance is different by 30 feet!

|||Major difference between softball and baseball is: baseball is mostly known for men playing it while softball is mostly known for women playing it. In softball the ball is bigger and heavier (really nothing soft about it). Yes there is a catcher in softball. In softball the pitcher pitches under hand and slightly slower. In baseball the pitcher pitches overhand. Also if you have watched Sports Science, a softball is harder to hit than a baseball since it goes up while the baseball goes down, because of the underhand and overhand throws.|||Most high school softball teams are made up of women. No guys.

The guys play baseball. The baseball and softball differ in size and weight, the baseball is about 2/3 rds the size of softball. The baseball can be thrown overhand or underhand, but softball must be thrown underhanded. Yes, there are catchers in both sports. The bases in softball are 90 feet apart and softball (fast pitch) are 60 feet.

Both games allow the stealing of bases but have very different rules that govern this activity.

Before you go out for softball, check as to the gender of the game.

Both games are wonderful, good luck.|||Boys play baseball. i have never seen a boy play softball in my life because softball is meant for girls to play. Boys play baseball and girls can play baseball but thats what softball is for.

the difference is the size of the balls, the field is smaller in softball, there are different types of bats, and the ball is pitched differently.

of course theres a catcher in softball who else would catch the ball when pitched? :)

In softball, the pitcher throws the ball underhand. they start with both their feet forward then step with their left foot turning their body ( if left handed, right foot). and as they do that, they bring their arm around in a windmill shape. then releasing the ball at their hip and following through. your making the windmill and stepping at the same time and you should end up with your body facing the plate in the position you started, just closer to the plate.|||the ball is bigger in softball compare to baseball. Boys can play both just as well as girls can.

Yes there is a catcher in softball. softball base running is smllar compare to the baseball.|||I play softball. Here are some differences:

1. A softball is bigger (and harder!)

2. A softball field has only a dirt infield, while a baseball fields have infield grass.

3. Men usually play baseball, and girls softball. However, there are many mens' softball leagues, as well as co-ed ones.

4. Softball is pitched underhand. It's your choice whether you "windmill" (move your arm in a circle above your head).

5. Softball has the same positions as baseball, but some softball teams have an extra outfielder called "short field." Not all have this.

I hope I helped! :)|||Do boys play softball or baseball? BASEBALL!

Is there a catcher in softball? YES

And how do you have to pitch in softball? underhand, but there's a long story about the motion

Baseball and softball are the same except for the ball size and the pitching motion. But girls play softball, you'd get made fun of if you went out for the softball team.|||Guys can play softball, but it isn't usually offered in schools, in high school boys play baseball and girls play soft ball. there is a catcher and you pitch underhand. The difference is the pitching style, size of the ball, and distance from pitcher to home plate.|||Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each.

Softball is a team sport popular especially in the United States. It is a direct descendant of baseball and the rules of both sports are substantially similar.|||yes boys do play softball , but its mostly played by girls and boys mostly play baseball.Yes there is a catcher in both baseball and in softball.in softball you pitch underhanded...i hope helped you out and, good luck=]|||There are co-ed softball teams that both boys and girls can play on, i'm on 2 right now and they are way fun and relaxed. But generally in high school boys play baseball and girls softball.|||yes u have to pitch in soft ball its just underhanded and mostly played by girls.|||the size of the balls|||oh dear god.|||In baseball the ball is smaller, in softball the ball is larger. You get 3 strikes in baseball, while in softball you only get 2. You pitch over handed in baseball and underhanded in softball. Players use wooden bats in baseball while softball players use metal instead.
