I used to play baseball but now that I'm in high school I need to switch to softball since there are no baseball scholarships for girls. What should I do? Softball feels awkward and not as fun. I am used to the small ball and when I've tried to catch the bigger ball I drop it. Also my bat vibrates so much when I hit a softball compared to when I hit a baseball. I have about 5 1/2 months to switch over. Got any tips?|||I was the same long time ago. I used to play baseball when I was young, then in my mid 20s (yes, in mid 20s, not as young age as you are), I switched to softball. Well, I said switched but rather I didn't have a choice because the town I moved to didn't have baseball team (believe it or not).
Well, no offense but to be honest, I even didn't concern as much as you are doing now.
Back then, I thought "No baseball team but softball team I can play for? OK, I will join that softball team. They are similar sports enough. Better than nothing to play".
Did I struggle? Maybe I did but I didn't feel so back then. If things were not going right, I adjusted, I tried, I talked to coach... I was just happy to be able to play a sport similar enough to play.
From my experience (of ages ago), I say you will start to pick up and get used to it.
No baseball team at your High School, so you don't have a choice to play baseball. Just softball or not.
Go for it. Hopefully you enjoy it.|||I can only assume that you are referring to fast pitch, so.
As far as throwing the ball, start by just aiming at their feet. Early on you will overthrow most of your targets, so try to hit their ankles. Fielding is near the same, only with shorter bases so you will need to release the ball quicker. Practice the fundamentals and speed them up as you get used to them. practice (with your feet) right, left, field -- right, left, throw. assuming that you are right handed.
As far as hitting: Rule #1 - Lay off the high stuff. With the different release point from the pitcher, the ball will be rising from the hand on high pitches, and the best hitter don't hot that pitch very often. Tip #1 -- Stride early. Gotta have good balance and the front foot has to land before you swing. Util you get used to the new timing that you must have with different pitching, stride early to ensure you get the front foot down. Get a tee.. Stride, hold 1001, 1002, 1003, swing, follow through with good balance.
Good luck to you, hit me up when you make the olympic team so I can watch you win the gold!|||You should get a bigger golve
