What is the difference between a fast pitch softball and a slow pitch softball?

I was given a dozen slow pitch softballs from a co-worker of mine for my team. I coach 5th and 6th grade girls fast pitch softball. These balls were going to be practice balls only but what is the difference in a fast pitch softball and a slow pitch softball? I want to make sure that using these balls for practice won't cause any problems!|||One goes fast, and one goes slow.|||I know this is an old question but to answer it, the size of the ball is completely different. Don't let your FP players get used to the bigger SP balls.

|||it really wont matter whether u use bigger or smaller balls for practice. I mean u could even use heavier balls to gain strength when throwing or hitting. %26amp; no SP balls arent that much bigger, the kids are in 5th/6th grade so they're probably using a 11" ball. I'm in high school %26amp; use a 12" inch ball

|||the balls are diff. size and weight. slow pitch is under hand, fast pitch has a wind-up or "windmill"

|||in fast pitch the bats are alot lighter, and in slow pitch the bats are heavier...as far as the balls go, softballs are all the same size some have a rubber feel to them and others feel hard...but all softball are used in slow pitch or fast pitch.slow pitch u have one speed fast pitch you have many

|||The difference is in fastpitch you do the whole wind up thing were you go around in a circle once and then pitch the ball and slow pitch you just under hand pitch the ball. Fast pitch is what girls play in college and olympis and slow pitch is just what men play when they play on a "softball team"

|||If the fast pitch pitcher is good, probobly about 60 mph.

There are differences in the rules regarding stealing bases and bunting (slo pitch no, fast yes)

But other than that, basically everyone has the chance to be a good hitter in slo pitch and on your toes defensively.

It takes far more skill to be an effective hitter in fast pitch softball. Against a skilled pitcher the ball gets on you in a hurry.|||ok ok ok, so... fast pitch %26amp;%26amp; slow pitch both use the same balls, so idk how tht could be a problem... but fast pitch has many different rules then slow pitch

fast pitch girls pitch faster (obviously) and cant round bases unless they forfeit to be called out. their bat speeds are usually faster and a lot harder.

slow pitch is pitched slower, and you can round bases without being called out.

and slow pitch is somewhat easier, only because it dosnt go out as far into the field|||The girls will never know the difference. I'm not certain the difference, but my guess would be the seams (stiching) on fast pitch ball would be higher for better grip and movement. 10 and 11 year old girls will never see a difference in a "slow pitch" ball. Use away and good luck with the season.|||fastball softball-the pitcher winds up and lets the ball go at around his/her knee, so the ball goes upward instead of downward like a baseball.

slow pitch.the ball goes up about 12 feet and then they try to land the ball on a mat a couple feet long and its a strike but it is like the pitcher lobs it up.|||Check the requirements for the official softball in your league different softballs have different circumferences or compressions. They also may have different seams. Most fastpitch softballs have raised seams while slowpitch softballs vary.|||I know that there are different sized softballs. if I remember correctly, 9 in. and 10 in.. If I were you I would call a sports equipment shop, they could give you a definite answer.

Good luck and have a great season!|||i dont think there is any difference, and ive played for 9 years. the only difference my be is possibly the size (11'' or 12'' maybe?)

fast pitch and slow pitch is used to describe the way the ball is thrown, not the ball itself|||-Fastpitch is when the pitcher pitches it under hand in a windmill motion.

-Slowpitch is when the pitch never comes around she just simply tosses the ball high in the air.|||No differnece in the ball.Difference is how the girls THROW the balls.

Slow pitch is when the ball goes slow(of course) and does a giant arch before it reaches the batter.

Fast pitch is fast, and has no arch|||There are no difference in the actual ball. Rules yes but the ball no although i see slow pitch being played with a white ball while fastpitch is normally a yellow ball with red stiching|||well i played fast pitch and it's basically self explanitory fast pitch is harder to bat because of the speed so you need to have a quick reflex|||In fast pitch- the ball goes fast

In slow pitch- the ball goes slow.

Cooome on.... it's common sense!!!!|||slow pitch is more a lob pitch and fast pitch is like a rope to the batter|||there is no difference in the balls used! just how it is tossed!|||i didnt think there was a diff|||slow pitch softball is similiar to basketball... fast pitch is similiar to riding a bicycle
